The BC Energy Plan: A Vision for Clean Energy Leadership puts British Columbia at the forefront of environmental and economic leadership in our energy policies. The Plan outlines the steps required for all stakeholders — including industry experts, environmental agencies and the people of British Columbia — to develop realistic and achievable goals for conservation, energy efficiency and clean energy.
Highlights
- Work collaboratively with industry, communities, Aboriginal people, education facilities, the federal government and others to define the projected demand for workers and take active measures to meet those demands.
- Attract, develop and retain workers focusing on under-represented groups: Aboriginal people, women, youth and immigrants.
- Attract workers from outside the province to ensure continued energy sector growth, particularly for the electricity, oil and gas, and heavy construction industries where the shortage is greatest.
- Retrain skilled employees who are without work due to downturns in other jurisdictions.
- Educate and inform high school students about options and career choices in B.C. energy sectors.
- Attract and retain workers by ensuring workplaces are safe, fair and healthy and communities continue to offer high quality health care, education, affordable housing and readily available recreation opportunities.
- Initiate a public awareness and education campaign geared to potential energy sector workers.
